BNB puts into circulation a new series of banknotes

The Bulgarian National Bank puts into circulation a new series of banknotes. The first banknote of the new series is a BGN 100 denomination, entering into circulation on 28 December 2018.

Technical characteristics of the banknote:

  • Background colour - green;
  • Dimensions – 141 х 79 mm;
  • Series number - consists of two letters and eight digits;
  • Material – high-quality banknote paper tinted in green, varnished after printing.

The new series has two marks for visually impaired people:

  • An embossed triangle pointed downwards and a rectangle underneath with the shorter side as its base, printed in the bottom right hand corner of the obverse side of the banknote;
  • An additional mark for visually impaired people - five thick and six thin lines at an angle along the short sides of the banknote.

The BGN 100 banknotes, issue 2003, remain in circulation together with the new banknotes, issue 2018.
