The Board of UniCredit adopted its strategic plan until 2018 focusing on growth and digitalization

In the following years the bank will invest 1.2 billion euro in the digitalization of services in favor of clients;

The Group’s financial result for 3Q of 507 billion euro exceeds the expectations of investors.

The UniCredit Board of Directors adopted its strategic plan for the period until 2018. The measures in the plan are focused on increasing lending, investments in the digitalization of banking services, sustainable increase of the indicators of capital adequacy and return. This became clear today, after the Group’s Board of Directors adopted and announced its three-year plan and its financial results for 3Q 2015.

Strategic plan 2018

UniCredit CEO Federico Ghizzoni announced that today the Group approved an ambitious plan to be fulfilled until 2018, whose purpose is to affirm the capability of the Group to increase its capital through organic growth and to increase its profitability. We are setting these goals to ourselves in a challenging economic environment, global growth slowdown and historically low interest rates. Yet, we are realistic regarding their successful fulfillment thanks to the responsibility we take with our decisions. The financing of this strategic plan will be made with own funds entirely.

He further stated that the group is concentrated on affirming its position of a leading European commercial bank also through additional measures for cost containment and restructuring of inefficient business lines.

The plans for future investments are significant, including the estimated 1.2 billion euro dedicated to the digitalization of UniCredit’s services to customers.

The strategic plan until 2018 has the purpose of UniCredit strengthening its capital indicators and for these to continue to be above the regulatory requirements. The CET 1 capital adequacy ratio in the following three years will reach 12.6%. The return on tangible assets will be increased against the backdrop of further shrinking of operating costs. The estimated profit until 2018 for UniCredit is 5.3 billion euro. The expectations are for a sustainable policy for distribution of dividends.

In the announcement of the plan it was explained that UniCredit considers an exit or restructuring of its retail business in Austria and its leasing business in Italy, and the purpose is to focus on its core business units.

For the purpose of simplification of the group structure, the shareholder’s control over the group’s activity in CEE will be exercised directly from Italy, instead of as so far, from the Bank Austria sub-holding. CEE remains a strategic market for за UniCredit.

With the plans for exit from the business in Ukraine, with the uniting of Pioneer Investment and Santander, as well as the expected changes in Italy, Germany and Austria, the plan of UniCredit stipulates that by the end of 2018 the Group will have around 111,000 employees. This is a decrease of around 18,200 people for the next three years.

Financial results

Eurozone’s GDP is expected to grow by 1.6% for the whole 2015, and the positive development of the economy will provide further support for the reaching of the set targets and good performance of UniCredit, as recapped at the presentation of the Group results.
