Now that traditional before-Christmas sales are over, UniCredit Consumer Financing, a leader in the field of POS loans in Bulgaria, prepared a data sample about the changes in consumer behaviour in comparison with last year.

Data shows that TV sets were still the most popular Black Friday purchase, accounting for one-fourth of all purchases on that day.

Another most-searched-for item were smartphones, followed by washing machines and tumble dryers.  These three product types accounted for a 51% share of all Black Friday sales.

Interestingly, the amount of the average purchase made by men through a loan remained the same as last year, while there was a 5% increase in purchases made by women in comparison with last year. In addition, women showed no tendency to shop more than men during the sales.

Another interesting fact is that in comparison to last year the average customer age decreased from 40 in 2016 to 38 in 2017.

The online purchases made through loans were almost 16%, as the percentage of male customers was even higher – 57%.

The amount of the average purchase made online decreased by 12%. In addition, customers’ age was also lower – 36 years and 6 months.

Although consumer spending reaches a second peak on Christmas Eve, usually there is a decrease of approximately 40% compared to Black Friday sales.
