Buying tickets for the metro by bank card now takes only a few seconds at the special UniCredit Bulbank ticketing machines

In the period from May 11th to June 11th, MasterCard will be refunding the cost of single trips made along the new metro line. The refund applies if the single trip ticket is bought using a MasterCard contactless card issued in Bulgaria at ticketing machines equipped with POS terminals of UniCredit Bulbank.

Buying single trip tickets for the metro or topping up 10-trip electronic cards at ticketing machines of UniCredit Bulbank already takes no more than a few seconds. The latest innovation in the capital city is available to passengers at the newest metro stations (some of which opened today), namely Iskarsko Shosse, Sofia Airport, Aleksandar Malinov, Akademik Aleksandar Teodorov – Balan, and Business Park Sofia. Buying tickets and topping up electronic cards is free of any additional fees and commissions for cardholders.

The ticketing machines accept payment by bank card – contact payment with PIN entry or contactless. Payment can be made by any MasterCard or Visa card. The machine prints a receipt along with the single trip ticket or the topped up electronic card.

How the bank’s latest innovation works was demonstrated personally the CEO of UniCredit Bulbank Levon Hampartzoumian, who bought tickets for Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, European Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva and Metropoliten Executive Director Stoyan Bratoev from the ticketing machine at Aleksandar Malinov Metro Station.

From May 8th the new section of the metro reaching the Business Park in Mladost Residential Area will serve nearly 42 thousand passengers per day according to information of Sofia Municipality. For an entire month (from May 11th to June 11th), MasterCard will have a special treat for passengers traveling along the new section and will refund their single trip costs of 1 lev. The refund applies for tickets bought using MasterCard contactless cards issued in Bulgaria at ticketing machines equipped with POS terminals of UniCredit Bulbank.

UniCredit Bulbank pursues a continuous policy of development and implementation of innovations, and the ticketing machines are yet another instance of it in favor of the bank’s clients and the public.

At the end of last year UniCredit Bulbank opened the first in Bulgaria International Corporate Center. It combines an innovative approach, a digital environment and a broad range of services with high added value for present and future clients of the bank. Another significant and internationally acclaimed project of the bank in the field of new technologies is the opening of the first in CEE Branch of the Future.
