Employees of UniCredit Bulbank renovated completely a playground in Sofia’s district of Novi Iskar. The funds were raised at charity bazaars organized by tens of volunteers in the bank for Christmas and Easter. The employees of the largest Bulgarian bank made on their own some of the goods sold at the charity bazaars and gave personal donations.
At the playground situated in the district of Novi Iskar, Kurilo quarter, new playground facilities have already been installed. And employees of UniCredit Bulbank gave their contribution to polishing the fence of the playground, cleaning the area and planting flowers.
“By this initiative the employees of UniCredit Bulbank gave a good example to society of corporate social policy followed by the bank and of its high integrity and gave a manifestation of the duty of the business to support society and its most precious part – our children,” stated in an official letter to the bank the mayor of Novi Iskar district, Daniela Raycheva.
Employees of the bank traditionally participate in various initiatives by charity work together with their families. In spring this year nearly 200 employees of UniCredit Bulbank collected around half a ton of waste in Vitosha Mountain in the context of the Third Green Day initiative of the bank. The areas around the huts of Momina skala and Planinetz were cleaned and the benches and bowers around the two huts were painted. The children of employees were actively involved in making bird houses which were then placed on the trees.
Last year the employees cleaned the area around the Monastery of Dragalevtzi in Vitosha Mountain in support of the National campaign “Let’s clean Bulgaria for a day.”
For the first Green Day held in October 2011 UniCredit Bulbank gained a distinction for a “Volunteer Initiative of the Year.” Then 300 employees of the bank and their families planted 1 300 willow trees and another around 1800 Rhamnus herbal shrubs in the park of Vitosha.
The Green Day initiative is part of the National Green Programme of UniCredit Bulbank in the context of which every year the bank implements environmental projects. From the outset of the initiative in 2008 nearly 400 dcr of forest trees have been planted in the vicinity of Stara zagora and over 30 km of main tourist trails were recovered in Vitosha Mountain – from the hut of Alekto to the village of Bistritsa along the Yanchovska and Bistrishka rivers.
In 2009 the bank funded the recovery of an eco-trail near the village of Borino next to the nature rock formation of Diavolski most. In 2010 UniCredit Bulbank together with the Bulgarian Charities Aid Foundation organized a contest for an eco-project and the winner was the National Association of Parks – in this way the bank provided BGN 5 thousand for funding the purchase of photo traps used for monitoring animal species and marking their habitats in six parks.
Along with this, in 2011 the bank started also a large-scale campaign for discouraging people from using paper statements and replacing them with electronic ones. Advertising materials are already made only by using recycled paper.
UniCredit Bulbank started installing bicycle stands in front of its branches in order to encourage employees to use this means of transport for going to work.
