UniCredit Studio houses a photo exhibition from the 60s by the legendary Toros Horysian

UniCredit Studio starts the most attractive summer month by hosting the exhibition The Sky that Talks to the Sea which shows photographs from the 60s taken by the legendary Toros Horysian. Levon Hampartzoumian, the CEO of UniCredit Bulbank, will open the exhibition tomorrow.

The vivid photographs of the Bulgarian seaside were taken exactly 50 years ago. Curiously, UniCredit Bulbank the biggest Bulgarian bank which houses the art space of UniCredit Studio in Sofia’s downtown, was also established at that time and now marks its 50th anniversary.

Toros Horysian invited UniCredit Bulbank to his home several years ago. In the neat living room of his humble apartment he welcomed us warmly looking a little bit tired, showing considerable confidence in the power of his photographic legacy. When we first saw his collections of photographs we were overwhelmed by the feeling that we had found a buried treasure. “Did you decide which ones to take”? he asked. “We’ll take this one, this one, and this one and…We have to exhibit them all”, shares the team of UniCredit Bulbank and UniCredit Studio about the history of the photographs included in the catalogue of the exhibition.

In The Sky that talks to the Sea Toros Horysian’s camera flirts with every wave, every smile on the beach, every strand of hair that had flown frivolously in the wind. Each photo reveals a flair for photography and mastery. Technology pays its deepest respect to the remarkable photographic flair it finds unattainable.

In honour of the mischievous shots of Toros Horysian UniCredit Studio exhibits the summer collection in several series: “To me you are a sea siren”, “Always together”, “A trip to the sea with kids” and “Something more…” Out of respect the bank has kept most of the original photographs’ names.

The series of photographs of the Bulgarian seaside taken by Toros Horysian in the 60s evokes any emotions other than a sense of nostalgia. The exhibition is like a fresh breeze to the people who have not gone on holiday. It will be open to the public from 8 – 30 August. “The Sky talks to the Sea” shows a blue summer, an orchestra with no name, life bubbles over from the footsteps on the sand, smells of sun oil, vanilla ice-cream … and something more.
