"Living Legends" directed by Niki Iliev has blown up the Bulgarian box office. The film of the young Bulgarian director was the most watched film right in its first weekend. It left far behind it multi-million American productions such as “Robocop” and “A New York Winter’s Tale” starring Colin Farrell.
"Living Legends" is realized with the essential partnership of UniCredit Bulbank. A video with the pre-premiere screening can be seen here.
The largest Bulgarian bank joined the project in order to support quality Bulgarian film-making. Some of the scenes with the leading character, who is a banker, were shot in the first Branch of the Future in Bulgaria, opened by UniCredit Bulbank.
Undoubtedly, the greatest contribution to the success of the film is the good scenario by Niki Iliev and Sanya Borisova, who have managed well to find a very good balance between fun and drama. Adding to this the good directing, the beautiful music, the outstanding performance by Orlin Pavlov, the participation of many Bulgarian stars and the appearance of the amazing Michele Placido, the success of "Living Legends" has been foretold. The huge interest of the audience confirms it, proving that the Bulgarian audience needs Bulgarian productions, especially when they are made with style and a clear message.
The achievement of production’s team is even more impressive considering the low budget – only 400 000 lev, which is in sharp contrast with American films costing tens of millions.
"Living Legends" is yet another proof that the huge budget of a film product is no guarantee of success. The talent and the will of the team are far more important.
