The second European UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour is launched today. This year it begins from Munich, where the Cup will remain in the course of five days.
The most desired Trophy of the European football clubs will arrive in the capital of Bavaria by a big show truck painted in the colours of UEFA Champions League’s sponsor, UniCredit. As Bulgarians fans, who were hosts of the Trophy in 2009, know, upon transportation, the Trophy is placed in a special glass safety vault so that it can be seen from everywhere.
Several hours ago the truck arrived at the special place, designated for it on the Marienhof Square. The Trophy was welcomed by representatives of UniCredit, UEFA, the Munich Mayoralty, as well as by Luis Figo, the official ambassador of UniCredit for the UEFA Champions League and the ambassadors of UEFA Champions League Kafu and Giovanni Elber.
As official ambassador of UniCredit for UEFA Champions League, Luis Figo will participate in the Trophy Tour of all five key cities included in this year’s edition of the tour: Munich, Prague, Warsaw, Bratislava and Vienna. “It is a great honour for me to participate in the Trophy Tour as official ambassador of UniCredit for UEFA Champions League. UniCredit’s initiative to bring the Trophy into different countries is a special present for the football fans,” Luis Figo said.
UniCredit Group Deputy CEO Paolo Fiorentino commented: “In the first year of the partnership we realized that the Trophy Tour is an event provoking lots of happiness and enthusiasm. The Trophy won high popularity and fans in the five countries through which it passed.”
The first UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour, organized by UniCredit in the autumn of 2009, began with a grand opening in Milan, Italy, after which it continued in Croatia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria. It registered big success with more than 90,000 football fans, who went to these five countries to see the famous Trophy. The show truck, which transported the Trophy, covered a distance of more than 4,000 km. It made stopovers in 15 cities, including the five biggest cities of the Tour: Milan, Zagreb, Bucharest, Budapest and Sofia.
After Munich, this year’s Trophy Tour will include Prague (Czech Republic) from 24 to 26 September, Warsaw (Poland) from 1 to 3 October, Bratislava (Slovakia) from 8 to 10 October to end in Vienna (Austria) from 14 to 17 October. The third group of countries from Central and Eastern Europe will be visited in 2011.
The Trophy Tour is one of the main initiatives within UniCredit Group’s three year sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League.
