UniCredit’s results for Q2 2016 better than last year’s and Q1 2016

News

UniCredit has announced earlier today its net profit for Q2 2016 at EUR 916 million (EUR 687 million net profit after adjustment for one-off deals). The result exceeds the expectations of market analysts for a profit of EUR 664 million. This is better performance compared to same period of last year and exceeds the net profit for this year’s first quarter.

All divisions of the banking group contribute to the positive result, the growth triggers being the business in Italy, CEE region and CIB Division.

The net operating profit increases to EUR 1.9 billion in Q2 2016 thanks to the sustainable revenues of EUR 6.1 billion and operating costs of EUR 3.3 billion (down by 4.3% on an annual basis).

CEE Region contributes significantly to the group’s results with a net profit of EUR 422 million for Q2 and EUR 707 million for the year’s first semester. The strongest contributor to the region’s financial results is Turkey with EUR 147 million net profit, followed by the Czech Republic and Slovakia with a joint profit of EUR 79 million. There are positive results also in Bulgaria, with a consolidated net profit of EUR 51 million (up by 11.3 % on a monthly basis and 5.6 % on an annual basis) and Russia with a profit of EUR 63 million.

The Group’s CIB Division has demonstrated good results with a net profit of EUR 361 million for Q2 2016. The Group’s positive result is contributed mainly by UniCredit’s Division in Italy with a net profit of EUR 316 million for Q2.

Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, the capital indicators of UniCredit are stable, the asset quality is improving whereas bad loans are decreasing. The bank has further announced today that its Core Equity Tier 1 will improve by another 12 basis points because of the sale of its activity as a card operator in Italy, Germany and Austria to SIA.

The group continues to work on cost reduction, streamlining of processes and digitalization of services.
