Over 200 employees of UniCredit Bulbank planted 130 Japanese cherry trees in Yuzhen Park. The Sakura trees are in the area behind the Earth and Man National Museum. The Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit Bulbank Levon Hampartzoumian, the Deputy Head of Mission and Counselor at the Japanese Embassy Susumu Ueda and the Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality Dr. Todor Chobanov planted the first tree during the Fourth Green Day of the bank.
The Japanese Ambassador to Bulgaria, His Excellency Takashi Koizumi, greeted the volunteers: "I would like to thank all those from UniCredit Bulbank who have contributed to the successful realization of this wonderful idea. I hope that after a few years, when the cherry trees grow and blossom in beautiful pale pink, they will become another bright symbol of the Japanese-Bulgarian friendship."
The Green Day initiative is part of the National Volunteer Programme of UniCredit Bulbank under which the bank implements significant environmental and social projects. The employees volunteer in activities like tree planting and cleaning and renovation of various spaces and terrains.
Every year the bank organizes Christmas and Easter charity bazaars in support of projects in the social sphere. The national volunteer campaign encourages the employees in their efforts for support and development of the local communities, which is part of the mission of the leading European bank group.
As part of its consistent policy on environmental protection, UniCredit Bulbank has been using for years only recycled paper for its advertising materials and encourages its clients to give up their paper statements of account.
Besides, the daily activity of the bank features many internal initiatives for conservation of the natural resources. Such initiatives are the recycling of printer cartridges, double-sided printing, automatic switching off of computer screens, etc.
