The European Music Festival takes place in Sofia for a 15th consecutive year. The grand event will present unforgettable Baroque, Classical and Romantic works. Between March 25 and June 10, the lovers of timeless classics can enjoy the 15 interesting and exciting events from the festival programme, some of which will be in Bulgaria Hall. UniCredit Bulbank is the official bank of the festival, which is organized by Cantus Firmus Music Agency. The fifteenth edition of the European Music Festival is part of the Cultural Calendar of Sofia Municipality and the Ministry of Culture. The event is under the patronage of Rumyana Bachvarova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Republic of Bulgaria, and Yordanka Fandakova, Mayor of Sofia.
The Bulgarian violin virtuoso Mario Hossen, together with Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra, will open the music forum at Bulgaria Hall on March 25. They will perform Astor Piazzolla's remarkable tango cycle The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. The ensemble will perform two more pieces for string orchestra – Greek Dances by Nikos Skalkottas and Divertimento by Béla Bartók.
On April 1, on the eve of the big Christian holiday Easter, the European Music Festival organizes a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach's Matthaeus-Passion. The spectacular nearly 4-hour composition for two choirs, five soloists and an orchestra will be presented in co-production with the Bulgarian Bach Society Foundation.
The most famous English ensemble The Academy of St. Martin In The Fields will visit Bulgaria on April 6. Within the European Music Festival, the orchestra will perform works by Edward Elgar, Benjamin Britten, Antonín Dvořák, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The musical programme continues on the following day, April 7, with the magnetic Bulgarian violinist Mila Georgieva with a concert by Johannes Brahms. It will be performed with the Orchestra of Classic FM Radio under the baton of Luciano di Martino.
On June 5, Beltango Orchestra from Belgrade and AGВU Sofia Chamber Orchestra with Bedros Papazyan as a conductor will play at Bulgaria Concert Hall. They will be joined by the dance duo Daniel Aranda and Annatina Luck. The famous Serbian musician Aleksandar Nikolic is working on tango arrangements for quintet and symphony orchestra especially for the event.
