Superstars to play in the first Match for Peace, which will be held on September 1 in Rome

News

Big stars of football will participate for charity in the first global Match for Peace (#MatchForPeace). In a period of dramatic interstate and interreligious conflicts, the match will take place in Rome at the legendary Stadio Olimpico on September 1, 2014 with the idea to promote the striving for peace and cooperation among beliefs and religions across the world.

A main sponsor of the event is one of the largest European financial groups, UniCredit, which supports the charitable initiative as it strongly believes in the power of intercultural understanding.

Among the world famous players that will appear in the Match for Peace (#PartitaPerLaPace) there are Gianluigi Buffon, Samuel Eto'o, Andrea Pirlo, Andrea Ranocchia, Arsene Wenger, Javier Zanetti and other.

The event is supported by his Holiness Pope Francis, known for being a sports fan, particularly when it comes to football. “Sport is a tool to communicate values, promote the good of the human person and help build a more peaceful and fraternal society. Let us think about the values of loyalty, perseverance, friendship, sharing and solidarity”, says Pope Francis.

UniCredit’s sponsorship will contribute to the awareness of the Match for Peace. All proceeds from the event will go entirely to charity, divided between a foundation for disadvantaged children and an international education network promoted by Pope Francis.

Diversity and international inclusion are strongly enshrined in the identity and history at UniCredit, as one of the largest financial institutions in Europe, with approximately 148,000 employees, a presence in over 50 countries, and direct banking services in 17 European countries. For several years now UniCredit has also been a sponsor of the most prestigious European football championship, UEFA Champions League. The Bulgarian member of the Group, UniCredit Bulbank, is the largest and the strongest financial institution in the country, holding number one positions in assets, deposits of individuals and SMEs, as well as loans.
