The reorganization of the Group’s European offices in the next two years will cut the expenses of the Bank with 150 million euro annually.
The new Headquarters of UniCredit in Milan - UniCredit Tower is now in the Top 10 of the world’s most beautiful skyscrapers. The ranking was made by the German company Emporis, which recognizes the tallest buildings in the world for excellent achievements in the functional and aesthetic design.
UniCredit Tower consists of three skyscrapers, among which Tower А – the tallest building in Italy, standing 231 metres high. The complex was designed by the Argentinian architect Cesar Pelli and built by Hines Italia SGR. The transfer of approximately 4,000 employees to UniCredit Tower will reduce the bank’s offices number in Milan from 26 to 5. This represents also reduction of 55 000 m. in office space and annual savings of approximately 25 million euro on property costs.
Apart from the ranking in the Top 10 of the most prestigious towers in the world, UniCredit Tower was also a finalist of the international real estate contest Mipim Awards. The Bank’s new home was the only Italian project selected for the Best Office and Business Development Contest.
UniCredit Tower has received a LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council. Thanks to the way in which the skyscraper has been built, it is extremely energy efficient:
• 22.5% energy savings;
• 37.3% reduction in the use of potable water in the buildings;
• 100% reuse of rain water;
• 93% recycling of building site waste;
• 20.5% recycled material used in construction.
The new Headquarters of UniCredit in Milan is a part of a project to reorganize all of the Group's main European offices until 2015, moving 25,000 staff members in Milan, Rome, Munich, Vienna, Warsaw, Hamburg, Bucharest, Prague, Moscow, Zagreb, Bologna, Turin and Verona. This will vacate office space of 650 000 sq. metres, which equals the space of 120 football playgrounds. The reorganization of the Group’s European offices in the next two years will lead to cutting the expenses of the Bank with 150 million euro annually.
The building of UniCredit Tower corresponds to the plan of the group for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 30% until 2020 in the offices and branches of the Group.
Green Deal
UniCredit and WWF signed a strategic international partnership, named “Green Deal” in 2009. The first ambitious goal UniCredit has set is to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% by 2020, thus supporting the EU energy goal – also known as “20-20-20” – defined in the “Climate & Energy Package”. „20-20-20” is an agreement for achieving three key targets to 2020 - 20% participation of the renewable sources in the energy production, 20% improvement in the energy efficiency, 20% reduction in EU greenhouse gas emissions.
As a part of the leading European Group, UniCredit Bulbank develops its own National Green Programme. The start of this programme was set in 2008 and in its context every year the bank implements at least one environmental project. More and more actively the employees of the bank contribute to the implementation of the programme.
