Mr. Boyko Borisov thanked the organizers and the sponsors of the UniCredit PGA Professional Championship of Europe

“The months that have passed since we opened this comfortable golf course have felt like flash, and now it is the host of the biggest championship, the first in Bulgaria. With this championship Bulgaria proved as a really good golf destination.” This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said at the opening of the UniCredit PGA Professional Championship of Europe.

“Congratulations and compliments to the hosts for the wonderful organization. I would also like to thank the sponsors together with whom we support this championship. I wish every success to all professional players as well. May the best win! I hereby open the championship!”

Before the Prime Minister, the participants and the guests of the championship were congratulated also by the Minister of Sports Mr. Svilen Neykov and the Executive Director of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) of Europe, Mr. Ian Randell. Mr. Randell thanked the companies that supported the championship, the title sponsor among which is UniCredit.

Among the official guests of the opening were also Unicredit Bulbank’s CEO Mr. Levon Hampartzoumian, the bank’s COO Mr. Andrea Casini, the President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Mrs. Stefka Kostadinova, the Regional Governor of Sofia Region Mr. Krasimir Zhivkov, the MP from GERB Mr. Emil Dimitrov, the left-wing MPs Mr. Rumen Petkov, Mr. Kiril Dobrev and Mr. Dragomir Stoynev.

After the opening, the winners in the UniCredit Pro Am Championship received their awards. These were Peter Grimford, Lyubomir Kostov, Stanko Marinov and Stefan Georgiev from the Glenfiddich team. The team of Hristo Stoichkov made it only to the eighth place.

Sixty of the top golf professionals came from more than 30 European countries, members of PGA, for the UniCredit PGA Professional Championship of Europe. All of them had won national-level qualifications over more than 20,000 club professionals. Craig Goodfellow, Christopher Gill and Simon Edwards from the team of England and Ireland, Hugo Santos from Portugal, as well as other European golf stars are already training on the Pravets golf course. The guest of honour of the championship is the President of the Portuguese PGA, Mr. José Correia.

The UniCredit PGA Professional Championship of Europe is under the auspices of the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Mr. Boyko Borisov.

The Championship is of great importance to European professional golf. The impressive prizes totaling EUR 60,000 ensure an exceptionally high level of play. The competition is held in four rounds of 18 holes each in the course of four days.

The event’s title sponsor is UniCredit Bulbank and it is supported also by international companies like Renault-Nissan Bulgaria, Bulgaria Air and other corporate partners.
