UniCredit Bulbank customers can now digitalize their VISA debit and credit cards in Google Wallet.

By digitalizing the card in Google Wallet, users use the secure and fast way to make easy payments through the Google Pay functionality.  Customers with Android devices will be able to use their digital cards in the retail network when shopping online and contactless cash withdrawal from ATMs. The new functionality builds on contactless payment services, whereas Wear OS smartwatch owners will also be able to make contactless card transactions.

The introduction of the new functionality is in response to consumer trends to seek easy and secure payment methods. According to data from UniCredit Bulbank for 2022, payments with a digitized card grew by 108% on an annual basis, which is a continuation of the upward trend that has been observed since the launch of the digital wallet in Bulbank Mobile and Apple Pay in 2020. A study done by the Bank shows that the main advantages for which customers choose the service are the convenience of making a card transaction without the need for physical plastics, as well as the additional security. The trend is confirmed by the growth of the number of transactions after digitization of the card by 83% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the results of the fourth quarter of 2022.

The digitization of the bank card is done through the mobile banking application Bulbank Mobile in just a few easy steps. All that the user has to do is open their Bulbank Mobile Banking Application, click the ‘Add to Gpay’ button under the card they want to digitalize and follow the instructions. This applies both to cards already added to the digital wallet of Bulbank Mobile and cards that have not been digitalized at the moment.

To benefit from the new functionality, customers must have an Android smartphone with at least Lollipop (5.0) or a Wear OS smartwatch.

By adding Google Pay to its digital services, UniCredit Bulbank meets most of the needs of its customers, who have different preferences - to its Apple users, the bank offers Apple Pay, to customers who prefer Android - Google Pay, and users of Huawei devices (without Google Mobile Service) can benefit from the Bank's own digital wallet, available in the Bulbank Mobile application.

With the launch of the new service, the Bank is also organizing a campaign for payments with cards digitalized in Google Pay, where 18 lucky winners will be able to win one of the most liked and wanted Android smartphone models. UniCredit Bulbank customers who make at least 5 payments with their VISA card via Google Pay during the campaign period are automatically eligible to participate in the prize draw.
