  • First National Awards of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria 2022 for Inspiring Achievements for Diversity, Equal Treatment and Inclusion: UniCredit Bulbank is the winner in the category “An inspiring initiative of an employer in support of working parents, families and children”

UniCredit Bulbank is the winner in the category “An inspiring initiative of an employer in support of working parents” in the first National Awards of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria (CWBB) 2022 for inspiring achievements for diversity, equal treatment and inclusion. The awards in the competition, held in partnership with the European Investment Bank, were presented at a ceremony on 14 November in the presence of Lilyana Pavlova, Vice President and member of the EIB’s Board of Governors, the official Deputy Prime Minister for Social Policies and Minister of Labor and Social Policy Lazar Lazarov, the Ombudsman Diana Kovacheva, ambassadors and members of the Management Board of the CWBB and the nominated companies.

The Bank was honoured for its overall approach to support employees who are also in the role of parents with various activities aimed at creating a positive employee experience in the important moments related to this role – before the birth of a child, during and after parental leave. The approach reflects the bank’s three corporate values – Integrity, Ownership and Care, as well as its mission to offer opportunities for growth.

For example, before the birth of a child, future parents can, depending on the position held, enjoy the possibility of flexible working hours and remote working (an opportunity granted years ago to all employees). At the birth of a child, parents receive financial support.

During parental leave, employees can rely on the support of corporate psychologists online (this is also valid for the time before and after the absence). During the leave, employees are still entitled to receive all social benefits, which are part of the overall remuneration and benefits package. In April last year, parental leave for fathers was increased and UniCredit Bulbank doubled the 15 calendar days provided by Bulgarian legislation by adding another 15 calendar days of continuous paid leave.

In 2014, UniCredit Bulbank opened its corporate kindergarten in Sofia, which has since then been perceived by employees as a valuable asset. In addition, the bank organises regular online seminars with a focus on well-being and personal growth and regularly presents topics that aim to support the role of parents (e.g. Parenting and Working: Mission Possible, At the Seaside with Kids, etc.).

Borislav Genov, Head of Retail Banking and Member of the Management Board of UniCredit Bulbank received the award on behalf of the bank. It was handed to him by Lydia Shuleva, owner of Business Intellect consulting agency.
