UniCredit Bulbank has signed a three-year contract to purchase electricity from a photovoltaic power plant, strengthening its commitment to sustainable development and significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
This agreement will cover approximately 75% of the bank's total energy consumption with green energy. The collaboration involves the monthly purchase of green energy produced by the photovoltaic power plant, amounting to an annual supply of 7,000 MWh. UniCredit Bulbank will receive guarantees for the origin of the purchased green energy in the form of certificates from the Sustainable Energy Development Agency (AUER).
"This agreement is an important step towards our goal of sustainable development. We are proud to be able to cover 75% of the bank's energy needs with renewable energy, which will significantly contribute to reducing our carbon footprint," commented Tsvetanka Mincheva, CEO of UniCredit Bulbank.
The new agreement encompasses all of the bank's locations across the country, except for some leased premises where electricity is invoiced by the respective landlord. This partnership aligns with UniCredit Group's goals, as UniCredit was the first bank in Italy to commit to a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA) with a green energy producer. UniCredit Bulbank is among the pioneers within the CEE region to follow Italy in signing a corporate power purchase agreement (PPA), reflecting the group's overall commitment to sustainability and green energy solutions.
UniCredit has already reduced its direct CO2 emissions by 32% between 2017-2021 and made a commitment to reach Net-Zero on own emissions by 2030 with 80% of the electricity used across its premises already coming from renewable sources.
