News

The first stage of the bank’s national Green program ends with investments for over BGN 100,000 in 400 dca of newly planted trees in Bulgaria in 2008.

This week UniCredit Bulbank completed a unique green project, which comprises the renovation of two major tourist paths in the mountain – from the Aleko hut to the village of Bistritza along the rivers Yanchovska and Bistrishka. Thus, more than 30 km of tourist paths were turned into a pleasant and safe place for having a rest or going for a walk. The green project was realized in cooperation with the Vitosha Nature Park directorate.

The project was fully funded by UniCredit Bulbank and it is one of the stages of the bank’s national green program, which is included in the Corporate Social Responsibility plan. The green program is a part of the commitments realized by the bank over the past year as a full member to the UN Social Responsibility and Environment Protection Global Contract initiative since 2002.

The green program started in April and during this period the bank invested over BGN 100,000 in planting trees and recovery of over 400 dca of acacia, cedar, spruce, fir-tree, oak and white fir forests in Bulgaria.

The renovation of the tourist paths in the Vitosha mountain comprised full renovation and restoration of bridges, placing grills over damp areas, clearing up the route of fallen trees owing to wind throw, renovation of draining gutters and set-up of new ones, renewal of path marking and placing new information boards, renovation of architectural elements (shelters, benches, tables, fountains).
