UniCredit Headquarters in different countries will switch off lights* for an hour on March, 28th
On March, 28th, UniCredit Bulbank will join the global initiative of WWF – Earth Hour 2009. On Saturday, at 8.30 p.m. the lights of the Headquarter of the Bank will be switched off for an hour as a signal to policy makers to act against global climate change.
The support of UniCredit Group for the battle against the climate changes is on a Group level and not only Bulgaria but also many other buildings will be involved in the initiative – in Milan, Munich, Vienna, Warsaw and others.
Our support to Earth Hour is a symbol of our consciousness as a Group of the responsibility we have towards environmental issues and sustainable development. We hope every one of us can and will contribute to this consciousness in daily practice to preserve the great natural capital we have and want to leave intact to future generations.
In 2007 we first pledged our commitment to support action against climate change by signing the declaration on climate change by UNEP FI, a partnership between financial institutions and the United Nations Environment Programme.
In 2008, working jointly with WWF Italy, we came up with a set of structured plans to improve our energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy sources, for example, by expanding the use of video-conferencing, reducing business travel and favouring the use of public transport.
As part of its complex Corporate Social Responsibility Program, UniCredit Bulbank also finances the investments in energy from renewable resources. In 2008 the bank laid the foundations of its National Green Program.
