Team’s goal-keeper Vasil Milev awarded Tournament’s Best Goal-keeper individual prize

The football team of Unicredit Bulbank triumphed in winning the LEADERS 2009 Cup at the small goals soccer tournament that was held this weekend, organized by Leaders 4 sport, at the Academic Stadium in Sofia. The final against the team of First Investment Bank, which was a worthy opponent, ended with a result 3:1 for UniCredit Bulbank. The biggest Bulgarian bank scored 21 goals in the six match games on its way to the Cup. Only two weeks ago, UniCredit Bulbank won the Cup of the One Life charity tournament, which was organized by the foundation by the same name.

The LEADERS 2009 gathered together the teams of nine financial companies. The competition started with parallel match games of the A and B groups of the teams of Bulstrad against Entrea Capital and IC Bulgarski Imoti against SIS, respectively. Another 14 matches followed under the “each against all” scheme. A number of goals were scored against the opponents with the football balls, provided by NIKE. After the interesting matches with unexpected twists and turns in the results, the Bulgarian-American Credit Bank, EIBank and Deloitte fell out. At the semi-finals, First Investment Bank indisputably beat the already exhausted team of Entrea Capital, and SIS managed to maintain a 0:0 result against UniCredit Bulbank only during the first half, as after the break the biggest bank in our country scored four goals.

With only one goal allowed in his own goal, Vasil Milev from UniCredit’s team became the Best Goal-keeper at the tournament.

The Sport Builds Up Leaders initiative aims at presenting sports as a significant part in the life of all active, successful, educated and modern Bulgarians. Leaders 4 sport are familiar with the popular tennis tournaments, THE LEADERS, which are held since 2004. The organizers set before themselves the goal to develop the soccer tournament and to make it a traditional event.

UniCredit Bulbank won THE LEADERS 2009 Cup only a few days after the bank officially announced the start of the 3-year partnership between UniCredit Group and UEFA Championship League. As part of this sponsorship, UniCredit will bring the most valued European football trophy- the UEFA Championship League CUP – to Bulgaria, this autumn. For the first time, the Bulgarian football fans will have the opportunity to see and to take close pictures with the Cup. It will be placed on a special stage at the Alexandar Purvi Square (known as “Alexander Batenberg”) in Sofia between 17-18 October.
