UniCredit Group will increase its capital through issuance of new equities worth EUR 4 billion. The decision was approved yesterday late in the evening at an extraordinary meeting of the Group’s shareholders.

The increase of the capital is expected to be completed towards the end of the first quarter of 2010 after reconciliation with the respective authorities.

The increase of the capital will further reinforce UniCredit Group’s capital structure and the capital adequacy indicators. In this way, UniCredit will perfectly position itself on its major markets in Italy, Austria, Germany and CEE (including Bulgaria) so as to benefit from the opportunities of the anticipated economic recovery and growth together with its customers and partners.

Merrill Lynch and UniCredit Corporate & Investment Banking will be the leading managers of the issue. Managers of the issue are also Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs International, Mediobanca and UBS Investment Bank.
