UniCredit Studio exhibits Velizar Dimchev’s Naked Eye

The “young hope” of Stoyan Kambarev Foundation dedicates his project to the renowned artist Kolyo Karamfilov

UniCredit Studio Modern Art Gallery will house the Naked Eye - an exhibition of the works of the visual artist Velizar Dimchev. This is the tenth exhibition hosted by UniCredit Studio. Since its opening in 2012 the gallery has become a preferred place by young modern artists.

The gallery is located within one of UniCredit Bulbank’s braches in Sofia’s downtown in 12, Knyaz Aleksander I Str. right in front of Sofia’s Telephone Palace. Entrance is free.

In 2013 the visual artist Velizar Dimchev received the prestigious Stoyan Kambarev Foundation Award for young Bulgarian artists. He is now reaping the rewards, namely the one-man exhibition Naked Eye displayed at UniCredit Studio.

The exhibition shows the paintings drawn in the past few months in London where he has been living, working and creating his works for almost a year. Velizar’s paintings have been inspired by the contemplation of the Universe which can be grasped by the human eye and cognition through the images of the Hubble Space Telescope. Most of them are actually existing or partially altered constellations, nebulas, galaxies, etc.

The project is dedicated to the great Bulgarian artist Kolyo Karamfilov who unearthed Velizar Dimchev’s talent.

Stoyan Kambarev Foundation and UniCredit Studio spotted the talent of the young visual artist who is notable for his outstanding creativity and highly individualized works in a wide range of fine arts: painting, graphic art, plastic art, video installations.

Velizar Dimchev was born in Plovdiv. He has a bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts and a master’s degree from the National Academy of Art, Sofia where he studied in the class of prof. Andrey Daniel. He also specialized at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2007.

Two major trends in which the artist is intensely interested are readily discernible in Velizar’s works. The first one involves the fictional character Franky, a geometrical minimalist vision which symbolizes the decline, everyday stress, social pitfalls and the matrix. The second one includes portraits of celebrities or fictional characters which allow expression of the social and psychological deformations in the soul of the modern man depicted with a manifest, almost grotesque facial mutations.

Art lovers have been waiting impatiently for the exhibition opening at UniCredit Studio, anxious to get lost in the new Universe created by Velizar Dimchev which will unfold an entirely new direction of his artistic quests. The Naked Eye will be on display from 3 April – 7 May.
