UniCredit is partnering with Treedom, an online platform which allows people to plant trees remotely and follow their growth online. The initiative will create the UniCredit Forest, consisting of at least 90,000 new trees which will be planted across Italy, Colombia, Haiti, Kenya, Madagascar and Tanzania.

The UniCredit Forest will offset approximately 20,500 tonnes of CO2 over the next 10 years, equivalent to emissions produced by driving around 4,400 cars for a year (source: EPA greenhouse gas equivalencies calculator). The planting of trees has already started and is expected to finish by March 2021.

All employees of the Group will have the opportunity to get involved in the project, also by planting their own, personal tree in the UniCredit Forest for free. Employees will be sent instructions on how to register and redeem their trees through the Treedom platform, where they can also follow the growth of the forest. In addition, colleagues will get a special discount if they want to plant more trees.

The project follows the 2019 Global Week of Climate Action when the Group encouraged employees to exchange ideas amongst themselves and with clients about what UniCredit can do to make a difference. The creation of the UniCredit Forest was one of the projects to emerge from this exchange and was closely followed by our Millennial Board.

The Millennial Board consists of employees ranging from 22-32 years of age, working to raise awareness within the bank of the views of new generations and to propose new ideas and solutions.
