This is the first ever theme playground focused on the musical perceptions of children
The mayor of Sofia, Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova, and Levon Hampartzoumian, Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit Bulbank, opened together the first theme playground for kids focused on their sound and musical perceptions, in Sofia. The playground is constructed with the joint efforts of Sofia Municipality and UniCredit Bulbank, and the bank provided entirely the necessary financing.
The new place for play and fun for the kids is located in the City Park near Ivan Vazov National Theatre. It has got „musical arch”, „telephone”, „flying table”, „rotating roller”, which can be used for play as well as for educational purposes.
“The construction of kids playgrounds is a priority for the municipality and we are happy that in the person of UniCredit Bulbank we found a socially responsible company, which supports these very same priorities”, said Yordanka Fandakova, mayor of Sofia.
„UniCredit Bulbank has proved many times its commitment to the development of the local communities. We are happy that now we can give the children such a different and modern playground“, added also Levon Hampartsoumian, UniCredit Bulbank CEO.
More about the playground:
The proposed theme for the playground is influenced by the location in close proximity to Ivan Vazov National Theatre, Bulgaria Concert Hall, the National Art Gallery etc. The theme was selected to relate to art, creative work and play. The playground includes 5 facilities in total, 2 of which are musical ones, evoking the hearing senses of children and adults. They can have a soothing, invigorating, and integrating effect.
When the children come to the playground accompanied by somebody, the accompanying persons can join in the games, thus achieving integration of the generations. For children with eyesight impairment the sound facilities give a lot of confidence and faith and these children become full-fledged participants in the games. For kids with hearing impairment sounds have a soothing effect and evoke the physical senses through the skin. The children can sense the sounds through the vibrations.
“The singing roller” is an interactive facility, which requires physical effort to be rotated by the users and then it gives out a musical sound. Another facility on the playground is the disc „The flying table”, which is suitable for people of various age groups. The body part of this fun installation is full of water and when one is sitting on it upon swinging there is pleasant and balanced swaying back and forth and one feels the movement of the water inside the disc. “The conference phone”, which has 2 body parts, is located at both ends of the playground, connected underground, and it serves for fun communication between the kids or between kids and adults. „The musical arch” consists of five wooden pipes, which make a sound. They are positioned on the both sides of the facility so that more kids could play and make music at one and the same time. In this way we encourage the children to play together and to listen to the melodies created by other kids.
The rubber flooring is in nice and soft colours, which were selected so as to match the colours of the surrounding buildings. The floor ornamentation resembles a piano style keyboard, which carries on the musical theme, and at the same time it represents a „route”, which the users of the playground may follow. Apart from that, this flooring allows also easy access to the facilities for disabled people in wheelchairs.
All the facilities that this place has to offer are unique in their design, concept and functionality. Each of them has an exceptionally high play value and they are attractive and pleasant.
The designer solution has taken into account the strategic location of the playground and the idea behind it was to make something that would be perceived as a highly artistic and unique urban design, which does not come into conflict with the surrounding emblematic buildings. At the same time, consideration is given to the high play value of the facilities, their multifunctionality, quality and safety.
